So, I have decided to move to WordPress, one of the best platforms to have a website on. In fact, 40% of the websites on the Internet are on WordPress Platform. There is a difference between WIX and WordPress. WIX is a Website Builder, whereas WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS). WIX has benefit in terms of Ease of Use, Functionality, and features like built in options. But, it also has downsides like owning rights, migration to other platforms and closed source. On the other side, WordPress is far and way outclasses WIX when it comes to choice of themes, control over your data and customisation of your development. Choose a Best Fit Hosting Plan This is most important before your project begins. To decide the platform on which your website is going to stay. There are hundreds of option available. There is no rocket science here, the more you spend, the better you get. But the goal is to decide the platform that is best for your website, not the most expensive and fastest one. Types of Hosting Shared Hosting It is the most popular in the market, the average customer usually pays between $3 to $20 a month. For example, you are just starting with your personal website or want to write a blog. One can start with the shared hosting initially and later move to a better plan when the traffic grows. My recommendation, If you want to save some time, managed hosting is the way to Go. Regardless of what plan you choose with the hosting provider, you should always look for these features like SSL Certificate, PHP7 or Higher, Nginx Server, their Network, and web protocol like HTTP/2 to ensure your website runs as fast as possible. Choose an Optimised Theme This part confuses the client most. While offering multiple options to choose from, clients go for the one which looks aesthetically better and has all the new shiny features like animated sliders, parallax effects and vivid icons etc. But, in terms of the performance, every such element you see in a theme has some impact on the overall speed of your website. Also, there are Free Themes and Paid Themes. Choose the one over the other depending on the need of the website. I always recommended starting with the free theme, and later you can always upgrade to the paid version if necessary. Web Stories by Google are tappable, engaging visual stories brought to the website. They’re powered by AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) technology. With these stories trending again, as LinkedIn also launched stories mode feature last month for certain region. This is a new way to get more visitors on your website with unique content. With the WordPress plugin, Google makes it easier to participate in this current trend. Web Stories by Google has announced a WordPress plugin that enables content writer to take full advantage of this trending Web Stories. Although, this WordPress was in Beta version when we tested this but it is not available on WordPress.org, this does not stop you to try. You can use it and report it to google, if you found any bugs or run an issue. Google launched the final version of this WordPress Plugin in summer 2020. Web Stories is a way to rank at the top of Google search, Google images, Discover, and Google App. Web Stories is recommended to have pages from 4 to 30 and contains a maximum of 10 words. One can affiliate links (but one link at a time, not more than that), Google Ad Manager and Google DV360 (Beta). Implementation on WordPress Content can be stacked with each other with Web Stories by Google. Text, images, videos and hyperlink can be used in one story. However, recommended length of the videos is no longer than 15 second with feature subtitle. Just like IGTV, it is good practice to have video in a portrait mode rather than Landscape mode. Google recommends that text be a minimum of font size 24 and that each page contains no more than 200 characters. In addition to this, it is also recommended that videos must have captions so that a user can watch the video and read along with it. If the content is long enough, that can be made available to read via hyperlink. Just like swipe up feature in Instagram Stories (once you have 10K followers) can redirect you to the article / specific web page / blog. This allows viewers’ attention via a Web Story and convert that into website traffic if it is interesting enough for them. Starting on a new tool can be daunting. Even today, many people still raise this question, Is technology improving your health? If you ask me, my answer is and will be YES always. It does get benefit of using tech for your health, You heard it correctly, but with only one condition if you use it wisely. Since the introduction of computers, we hear all the time from our parents or society about how technology is bad for us and one must avoid using, and this issue continue to grow with the advent of smartphones. People like me working on Information Technology field have the same issues, we spend more time sitting at a desk than moving around at work. We have created this sedentary lifestyle that is causing havoc in our overall life. What if I were to tell you there is a benefit of using tech for your health as well as for society? Would you believe me if I say that improving your health? Most of you wouldn’t consider at first. Well, you may have different opinion, but your mind still on the side of all the negatives that so-called experts have shared in the past. The problem with such ‘experts’ is that they are only focused on the negatives. They haven’t looked at so many of the benefits. Whether you’re going through an emotionally rough time or having a tough time trying to trim down, you can connect with others who have gone through the same struggles and made it, and use their stories as your motivation. I personally love reading a blog, following a healthy Instagram feeds, sharing a post on Twitter—technology has created an online community that can be used for the greater good—a support system for your personal quest for optimal health and fitness.
